If your kids are anything like mine, chances are, they love bubbles. And you love the peace that this activity brings! My Non-Toxic Homemade Bubble Solution means you always have a batch on hand. This is a game-changer for busy Moms who don’t feel like going to the store.
Plus, this recipe is non-toxic, AND you can customize it with calming essential oils. The kids get to play, and you get a little aromatherapy session. Win-win!
Why DIY?
It’s so easy to get in your car, drive to the store, and grab a bottle of bubble solution. Why take the time to DIY?
I personally became passionate about self-sufficiency within the last two years. Like many of us, I came to the realization that stores weren’t always going to be stocked, and having a few tricks up your sleeve keeps life as normal as possible..even when it’s anything but. While my kids are well aware of world events, I try to create a magical space for them that stays consistent, no matter what’s happening.
Fun activities like bubbles break up the monotony, keep my kiddos off their tablets, and give them something to look forward to. It feels great to be able to whip up a fun activity with a few ingredients! Yes, being self-sufficient extends to all things, even minor details like bubbles. 🙂
Aside from being independent, homemade bubble solution is non-toxic. Many bubble mixtures on the market are made with toxins and artificial fragrances, which I try to stay away from as much as possible.
Many soaps on the market contain SLS, a toxin that can cause major eye damage. If you’ve ever gotten shampoo in your eyes, you know just how harmful SLS can be.
I’m a big believer in creating an all-natural lifestyle that is simple. I always weigh my return on investment, and I definitely don’t make every. single. thing. But this homemade bubble solution is in my rotation because it takes minutes, and unless your kids spill the jar (which happens here a LOT!), you won’t have to make it again for some time.
Add This To Your Shopping Cart
There are so many great bubble recipes out there, but I make mine based on ingredients I always have in my house. Be sure to check out my “Helpful Tips” section for ways you can customize your solution to fit your needs. Here’s what you need to add to your shopping cart.
Castile Soap: This is a wonder ingredient that is definitely worth investing in. One bottle lasts forever and you can use it for so many different things. I use it in dish soap, body wash, and more. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and plant-derived, making it perfect for sensitive skin. I use a plain, unscented castile soap so I can add my own fragrance.
Castile soap is gentle yet strong, and it does a great job in whatever recipe you put it in.
Glycerine: A lot of homemade bubble solutions use sugar or corn syrup, but mine uses glycerine. I always have a bottle of glycerine on hand to make healthy ice cream, so it was a no-brainer! If you want bubbles that are long-lasting, add glycerine.
This ingredient adds moisture, which extends the life of your bubbles, creating a stronger solution. Your bubbles will be harder to pop, which is always a good thing, right?
If you want a really strong bubble solution, let your mixture sit overnight before using it.
Essential Oils: Let’s be honest, you don’t HAVE to include essential oils in your homemade bubble solution, but it definitely levels it up. I always use calming scents because..kids.
Lavender and chamomile are always so soothing and create a wonderful blend. If you want a cheery scent, go for citrus essential oils. Sweet orange is one of my favorites! Mix and match until you find what blend works best for you.
Essential oils create a chill atmosphere for both Moms and kids without the use of artificial fragrances. If you’re looking to eliminate toxins from your house, the best (and easiest!) thing you can do is go fragrance-free.
You can liven things up by adding a few drops of essential oil to your laundry soap, dish soap, and homemade bubble solution.

Helpful Tips
While this recipe is easy enough, there are a few helpful hacks to make it awesome. Here are a few things you should know!
- If you don’t have glycerine on hand, you can use 2-3 tablespoons of sugar or corn syrup. If using sugar, use warm water to dissolve the sweetener.
- We find that small wands work best, as opposed to larger ones. Feeling crafty? Make your own wands out of pipe cleaners. Here’s an easy tutorial.
- Store your bubble solution in a dark, cool place. This keeps the essential oils at their prime!
- This mixture works great in bubble machines as well.
- While this homemade bubble solution is non-toxic, it is definitely not edible. 😉
- Mix and match essential oils, but I recommend staying away from “hot” oils like cinnamon and clove.
- You can also use this recipe in place of bubble bath. It creates the most luxurious bubbles ever.
- I got my bubble wands at Dollar Tree when they had their seasonal items out. These wands have held up, and they’re so fun!
- For colored bubbles, add a few drops of natural food coloring. This is a great sensory activity!
