Why You Shouldn’t Pay For Magazines..EVER Again!

June 17, 2015 by Cate H

This post might include affiliate links for products that I know and LOVE!

To put it bluntly, magazines are one of those impulse purchases that I see as completely pointless. While I enjoy reading them, I’m someone who will read them once then toss them. In the past year, I’ve bought maybe 1 issue of a magazine, only because I was in it! Even though I don’t purchase magazines, I am still an avid magazine reader who loves to read Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle and Entrepreneur, just to name a few. I probably have about 7 different magazine subscriptions that I receive on a regular basis and I don’t pay for any of them. Here are my tips and tricks for getting those popular magazine subscriptions for free and a few ways that you can read publications without paying a single cent.

Recyclebank

Recyclebank is a fairly new resource I’ve found, but they definitely have the best selection of magazines. I’ve gotten Women’s Day, Glamour, Redbook, Family Circle, People Style and so many more subscriptions through them! This is a simple way to earn free subscriptions while learning more about the environment. You watch slideshows, read articles and take quizzes to earn points towards their rewards store. The points add up extremely fast and it’s well worth your time. Plus, if you don’t want to take the time to do it yourself, there’s always a child that could learn more about being eco-friendly!

Rewards Gold

This resource has been around for awhile and isn’t as fun or easy as other options, but you can still get some pretty great free magazines! You earn points by referring friends and answering surveys. It’s not hard to rack up the points and you can get some pretty cool magazines! As I was browsing this evening, I saw Parents, Essence, More and a few popular magazines available in e-format.

Freebie Sites

Keeping an eye on freebie sites such as FreeFlys.com helps you to take advantage of any free magazine subscriptions that come around. There are also websites that let you take advantage of digital subscriptions to your favorite publications for a limited time. I don’t use those types of sites as often as the rewards programs, but if you wanted to read a specific issue, this would be a great option for you!

Ministries

Ministries such as Joyce Meyer and Kenneth Copeland offer their publications for free. I enjoy reading these magazines to get a dose of inspiration and encouragement. If you go on their website, you can sign up for these publications easily!

Read Articles Online

This is an option that I don’t use very often, but if there is a specific magazine that you love, chances are, their website offers a great selection of articles in their archives.

Your Local Library

If there is a certain magazine that you absolutely can’t live without, you can most likely find it at your local library. My library has a comfy reading area with large chairs and cushions. They also offer back-issues of these subscriptions. It’s the perfect way to get to read your favorite publication while getting some time out of the house! Bonus: My local library will get rid of backdated issues of magazines about once a year, so be sure to ask if your library offers something similar!

By not spending $3-$5 on magazines everytime I hit up the grocery store, I’m able to use that money towards extra groceries, a fun treat, or even a new book. These little steps add up over time!

Good suggestions! I also use my Pampers Rewards to redeem a subscription to Parenting and Better Homes and Garden. Money Saving Mom also posts a lot of free magazine deals, some of which I have also redeemed too. Although to be honest, you should the see the stack of un-read free magazines I have sitting in my book basket! 🙂
