Where Does Your Joy Lie?

March 30, 2015 by Cate H

This post might include affiliate links for products that I know and LOVE!

I think our satisfaction in this life can be summed up in one simple concept: What is our joy dependent on? Not our happiness, because that’s totally fickle. Happiness comes and goes a few times a day, more if you’re extremely hormonal that day! 🙂

Joy, however, is lasting. It’s that calm, sweet peace that we have in our spirits. That reassurance that everything in life is going to be okay. It’s what causes people to be able to smile and stay calm in the midst of life’s many storms.

I’m sure you know that one Zen person. Their life isn’t perfect, they have trials just like you..but somehow they seem to always keep their cool. They have a good attitude in spite of what’s going on around them. I guarantee you, that person’s joy lies in something that’s lasting.

When we place our joy in the hands of the finite, we find ourselves disappointed. Fickle things will crush our spirits and leave us discouraged. Placing our joy in the hands of money, people, or belongings will end with the same result every time..because things disappear, finances aren’t steady and people change.

When we place our joy in the hands of He who is infinite, we are able to experience true joy and peace. It takes a huge load off not only your shoulders, but the shoulders of those around you when you aren’t placing your personal satisfaction on them.

I encourage you to take on the challenge that I am extending to myself today and ask yourself a few questions such as: Where does my joy lie? Am I placing my feelings in the hands of others or the hands of God? What things equal complete satisfaction in my eyes?
