It was one of those mornings where I was ready to go back to bed before my day even began. Exhaustion is near and dear to me these days as I enter into my third trimester. Add into the equation a sweet, molar-teething blessing and you have my norm.
Even if my reality looks nothing like yours, I’m sure you’ve had those moments where you are just begging for the strength to get through this next phase. I feel like the man in the old folk tale at times. The one who is so busy pulling the string to get to the next, easier phase in life that he forgets to love where he’s at.
Lately, I’ve been reading the book A Thousand Gifts, by Ann Voskamp. The main concept of the book is that choosing to see the good in where you are and being grateful for it brings life and healing. I plan on starting to write them down this week, but I’ve found that just taking a few minutes when I’m overwhelmed to mention a good thing or two tends to bring me back down to earth. I’m starting to see that in the middle of those overwhelming moments where my toddler is up all night, his baby kisses and soft skin are blessings. When I’m feeling sick and tired due to pregnancy, my little one’s movements are a blessing.
My challenge for myself, this week is to start keeping track of these little blessings and look for more of them.
Would you do the same?
