4 Things To Do When You Fall Off The THM Bandwagon

Since Trim Healthy Mama is a lifestyle based around forming positive eating habits, it can be easy to slip up. Slip ups, in and of themselves, are completely normal and you shouldn’t beat yourself up over them. But when slip-ups turn into forgetting every healthy habit you’ve formed, you should make an effort to get back on track. We’re only human, so falling off the THM bandwagon will happen to everyone, in one way or another. Here are a few steps to take when you’ve gone completely off the healthy path.

Determine The “Why”

To create a lasting change, you need to pinpoint the reasons why you didn’t succeed the first time. For some of us, it could be something as simple as lack of preparation. For others, it could be something a little more difficult to address, like an emotional response to a hard situation. If you are anything like myself, you might have several “why’s” to deal with! Getting to the root of the issue helps you to come up with a valid solution.

Take Action

Once you figure out why you strayed from healthy eating, you can come up with a detailed plan of action to prevent future mishaps. In your plan of action, you should address the root reason of why you had a slip-up. For me, it’s easy to come up with a great plan of action..but following through with that is another story! Make sure that your plan is doable and realistic. Writing down your plan of action not only helps it to stick in your mind, but it also gives you something to refer back to in moments of weakness.

Start From Square One

I like to give myself a refresher course on the basics of THM by going through the books chapters on S and E. A lot of times, I’ll find that I’ve overcomplicated things, or that I’ve let the influence of others shape the plan into something that isn’t doable for my unique life. I’d definitely recommend re-reading certain portions of the book to put your mind back into a “square one” mentality. Another way to get back to a fresh start phase is to focus on eating simple meals.

Give Yourself Grace

Remember that you’re only human! THM is meant to give you food freedom. It’s easy for admiration for other THM’ers to turn into comparison. The only person that you have to compare yourself to is the person that you were yesterday. As long as your choices are getting healthier, your body is feeling better and you are happier..you’re doing great.

Great tips! I’ve been on THM for two years now. I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant and I totally just ate an off plan doughnut…I tend to use my pregnancy as an excuse to eat things I shouldn’t. I still follow the plan most of the time but this pregnancy has me craving unhealthy foods. I’m hoping to get back on track soon and battle these cravings one day at a time!

My husband and I have been doing THM for over three years now. We were at goal and doing great until last January when cancer turned life upside down. The chemo my husband went through was manageable but you reach a point where you aren’t sure it matters any more. He’s doing well for now and we are struggling getting back in the groove. We still eat the THM way but too many other bad foods have been added. I needed this post to encourage us. Thank you!

      Hi, Jan!

I am so glad to hear you husband is doing better. You sound like you’ve had quite a busy year! I pray that 2017 is a bit more calm for you. <3 Thank you for reading and Merry Christmas!
