Happy 2021, friends! As I was looking over my goals for this year, I noticed that many of them revolve around my physical health. I’m shaking off the insanity that was 2020 and honing in on my overall well-being! The thing about goals is that they require habits to make them happen. So, here are a few Trim Healthy Habits to get your year started off right.
Drink More Water
I started with the obvious one, I know. But it really does make a difference in your overall health! How much water should you drink a day? Some people say your body weight in ounces. Others say 8 8-ounce glasses. I try to listen to my body. If I get in a slump where I drink only iced coffee (just being honest!), I’ll use a water bottle that tracks how much I’m actually drinking. Have trouble WANTING to drink water?
Try at Least 3 All-Day Sippers
Sippers are my absolute favorite way to get my water in! If you aren’t super into plain water, you have to try them. All-Day Sippers are basically jazzed up water or tea. You can drink them all day (hence the clever name!) and they are so fun! My favorite sippers are Parrot Punch (Found in the Trim Healthy Future Cookbook), The Shrinker, and Pumpkin Pie Sip (Both found in the OG THM Cookbook). I dare you to try at least 3 All-Day Sippers.
Follow a Few Different THM Bloggers
Trim Healthy Mama Bloggers are a great way to get new recipes, menu plans, and more from someone you can really identify with. Dairy-Free? Budgeting? Drive-Thru Sue? There’s a blogger for you. A great way to find different bloggers is to creep on the THM Bloggers Test Kitchen page on Facebook. It’s where I and many of my buddies hang out!
Set a Cut-Off Time
One of the things that I’m doing this year is to set a specific time to STOP eating. For me, this is 7 PM. I notice when I do this, I feel better and eat less. My plan is to grab a cup of herbal tea or flavored water instead of the usual heavy snacks. If you need ideas about super light night-time snacks the THM Poddy regularly shares tips about this.
Switch It Up!
Now is a great time to re-evaluate. Are you stuck in a rut? Do you stick with mainly S meals? Maybe you are too light on the fats? Eliminating any of the food groups isn’t a good thing and can hinder your progress. Not sure if you’re in a rut? Try tracking your meals for a few days.
Target Root Causes
Let this year be the year you go deeper than just cutting sugar and white flour. Those things are great, but if you still have underlying issues, that can just be a temporary fix. I’m not sure what your underlying issue is, but I realized a few of mine. Hormonal issues, emotional eating instead of turning to Jesus, emotional health issues. Don’t be afraid to go deep.
Go Green! Or Orange.
I heard once that the more colorful your plate looks, the healthier it is. I plan on having fun this year and making my plate look super colorful with lots of vegetables. My current favorite veggies are mini bell peppers. They’re so good and you can use them in so many different ways like my bell pepper nachos.
