The only thing better than a novel by Ted Dekker is a novel by Ted Dekker and his daughter, Rachelle Dekker. The Girl Behind the Red Rope is a collaborative effort that delivers a wonderful punch.
If you’ve ever seen M. Night Shyamalan’s movie, “The Village” you’ll probably get the same vibes within the first chapter of this book. Grace is part of a religious group intent on keeping themselves “pure” from the evils of the world. When her older brother gets a little too daring in his questioning of the “Fury”, things start to get out of hand.
This book was well-written with a dystopian feel. I really liked the character of Grace and I thought the authors did a great job of describing the things the characters saw. This book really made me feel as if I was in the cult. Which was not always good, but it shows the strengths of the Dekker family. Like all of Dekker’s books, the struggle between good and evil is well-represented.
If you’re a fan of thrillers that are eerie, not scary, I highly recommend this one. It’s a great read going into October!
