Book Girl is a book about the reading life written by Sarah Clarkson. Sarah is the daughter of Sally Clarkson, who is one of my favorite mentors. I think I’ve read everything put out by a Clarkson. 🙂 This book is, by far, one of my favorites. Sarah Clarkson writes from a place of experience. She was read to practically from conception and her Mother made sure that she always had a plethora of great reading material at her fingertips.
Sarah starts the book with a brief overview of why it’s important to read and the benefits that reading can bring. She combines research with quips from the heart to create a compelling case for reading. She gives readers tips for creating a rich reading life, my favorite tip being to create a reading journal. I use GoodReads to keep track of my own reading life. 🙂
My favorite part of this book was the book lists. Sarah has crafted over 20 book lists ranging from biographies to beloved characters. These lists have titles that I hadn’t heard of before but am excited to read. I loved the fact that these books were all high-quality and a bit more challenging than your everyday reading list.
Sarah is an elegant writer who really knows how to paint a picture with her words. I’ve been a fan of the Clarkson’s way of life for a long time and am always looking for ways to incorporate the things they cherish into my own life. This book is a great book for any girl who loves to read. It will challenge you to go deeper in your reading, help you align stories with the Gospel and give you a few great suggestions. This is one of my favorite books on the reading life.
