Starry-Eyed is a book written by the CEO of MOPS, so you know automatically it’s gonna be good! Mandy Arioto has a lot of mothering years under her belt and it shows.
This book is a collection of essays, easily read whenever you have 5 minutes or so. The essays inspire you to find unexpected grace in your life, not only as a Mama but as a woman of God. She shows her readers how to encounter the sacred Christ in everyday moments, including those moments that seem so dark. She gives us hope to not only survive Mama-hood but to thrive in the midst of it and come out of it a stronger, better woman. This book brought so much perspective into my life and I loved how she was honest.
She doesn’t sugar-coat mothering and through her words, I learned that it’s okay to not be okay with this all of the time.
I would not recommend using this book as a Bible study, simply because I found that there was a lack of Scripture when compared to other books on parenting. There were also a few things mentioned that were a little too “New-Agey” for my taste, but nothing that would lead anyone astray. However, if you’re looking for help to manage the emotions that come with being a new Mom, this book is for you!
I found the Q and A sessions at the end of each chapter to be the most helpful, they really brought Mandy’s points home! I appreciate her rawness and how she takes a stand for less than perfect motherhood. It all is grace and is all to be embraced
