I was introduced to Trim Healthy Mama by my Mama, who gave me her extra copy of the original book. The original book, in my opinion, was amazing..yet long. I am an avid reader, so I loved being able to have SO much information at my fingertips. I was pregnant with my oldest son, so I had a lot of time on my hands being chained to bedrest and all. 🙂
These days, my time is limited taking care of my two little blessings, so I have a new appreciation for condensed information that gets right to the point. That is what the new THM plan book gives you. The information is divided up into easy to read, easy to refer back to sections. You get a quick overview of the plan, the various fuel types and things like drinks, snacks, and special ingredients. The plan is laid out in a no-nonsense way, with tidbits from Pearl and Serene that make this book so..them! 🙂 If you were entertained by the last book’s sisterly ranting you’ll still witness that element of fun. They remind me so much of my sister and me!
The book then goes into ways to apply THM to your life. Whether you are a total Drive Thru Sue or a Purist, there is a chapter specifically for you! I think you’ll love that the chapters are broken up, so if you’re short on time you can read just what pertains to you, though I’d recommend taking what you can from each chapter. These chapters are geared towards the special needs of each Mama and you’ll find menu plans, tips and tricks and information that will help your specific lifestyle type to succeed. There is even a guy chapter!
One thing that makes this book unique is the easy reference guide in the back that goes over the various meal types and what things are compatible with each fuel type. This resource has been such a lifesaver to me when I’m having Mama brain. The book is completely geared towards YOUR success and it’s an extremely valuable tool in your journey to health. I would say that this is a great investment!
Bright pictures, easy to follow instructions and realistic recipes are what makes this cookbook stand out in my mind. I also love getting a glimpse into the lives of the sister’s with the pictures of their beautiful families.
I loved that this cookbook isn’t geared towards just one type of chef. There are recipes for the days that I need something easy and there are recipes for those days I want to go all Chef Emeril. This cookbook fits all budgets also, with many options for substitutions for the “special” ingredients. The meals are family friendly, which makes it easy to menu plan. Thanks to Pearl and Serene’s distinct tastes, there are recipes for families that like typical American food and recipes for families who experiment with different cultural seasonings.
For those of us with picky men and children, this cookbook makes it easy to stay on plan and cook just one meal. I’ve made my husband so many THM meals that he absolutely loves. Here are a few examples:
