If I could only have one mentor for the rest of my life, I’d choose Sally Clarkson. Not only is she a phenomenal woman of God, but she also knows how to make everything in life a celebration of God’s goodness. Her book, “The Lifegiving Table” gives readers an inside peek of just how she does that. This is my favorite book of Sally’s because I gleaned SO much from it. Sally gives a background on how table discipleship has impacted the world for a long time, even in the days of Jesus, who was actually the King of making a table celebratory. Her husband wrote the most insightful chapter on why it’s important to create a life-giving table, which I thought was unique and wonderful to hear a man’s perspective on homemaking.

Sally includes a listing of her families celebrations, including why and how to celebrate each event. She really is an open book, telling her readers of the victories and failures she’s experienced over the years in this area. I liked that she kept it real and it really encouraged me to jump right in, even though my table looks totally chaotic at times. 🙂 Each chapter starts with beautiful quotes and ends with Sally’s recipes. If you’ve read her books for awhile, you were probably curious about how she makes her cinnamon rolls and cheesy eggs. My curiosity was satisfied. 🙂
I found myself sad that this book had ended and wishing there was even ONE more chapter. I’d love to be an honorary Clarkson, if they’re taking applications. I think readers will enjoy Sally’s grandmotherly advice, her practical solutions for creating a lifegiving table and her heart for the Lord. I can only hope to raise my family as well as she raised hers. We are truly so blessed to have Sally as a “mentor”. 🙂
I was so happy to be a part of the launch team for this book. I won a drawing for a membership package to Sally’s new site “Cultivating Life with Sally‘ which is full of extra thoughts on motherhood, discipling, great composers and more. I feel like I’ve learned so much since I became a member and the monthly price is reasonable. I plan on continuing my membership after my initial package runs out.
