*I received this book in exchange of my honest review, all opinions are mine
So, the summer of 2017 found me in over my head. Potty-training, sleep-training, character-training and a move. I was feeling super overwhelmed, so Nicole Johnson’s “Creating Calm in the Center of Crazy” came into my life at just the right time. The author found herself in a position that many of us have. A state of constant overwhelm where you are over-tired, over-worked and just plain done. She purposely sought out ways to change her life and that’s what this book is.. a chronicle of those changes.
There were many great take-aways from this book, though I felt it started really slow. The practical advice is great for someone who is newly looking to slow things down. I loved how the author was humorous, it gave a heavy topic some lightheartedness. The personal stories were really great too because you could find ways to apply each piece of advice to a tangible situation. I did wish this book contained more Gospel truths and brought Jesus into the mix.
I felt that due to the lack of Gospel-centered truth, this book was lacking and might not be the ultimate source of change for some people. It was really missing the core ingredient of a restful life. All in all, I think many people could benefit from this book and will find the advice easy to follow
